I love historical sagas and Lyn Andrews is one of my favourite authors in this genre. You are always guaranteed an excellent read that you can just relax into and totally lose yourself for a few hours safe in the knowledge that you will enjoy the story. A totally absorbing comfort read- pull up your chair, grab a cuppa and a lovely piece of cake.
It’s set on the Isle of Man- which I would love to visit one day and it gives a wonderful account of life there. We also visit Liverpool which is also well described. Cathie wants to escape her tough life in a fishing town to become a shop girl in Liverpool. She gets a job in Lewis’s and the store sounds very grand. It gives you a lovely sense of life in the 1930’s
The characters are extremely strong and well drawn- you follow their lives including great friendships, secrets and romance.
I was sad to come to the end- and will eagerly await Lyn’s next book.
With many thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a copy of this book.
