The Nurses of Steeple Street- Donna Douglas

nurse

I really enjoyed this book by the author of the Nightingales series. I love medical dramas set in this era.

Agnes is forced to leave her previous life and start training as a district nurse in Quarry Hill. Initially she believes that she will teach them all because she trained as a prestigious Nightingale Nurse. She soon learns that she will have to earn the trust of the locals as they see her as believing she is above working with the people around Steeple Street. She thinks that a more efficient approach is all that is needed and incurs the wrath of the district nurse she is following.
She’s hiding secrets of her own- but soon realises that she can make a difference in her chosen field even if she still has a lot to learn.
We get to know all the characters really well and I look forward to hearing more about them in future books. There is romance, family issues, health issues of the time and friendships developing between the trainee district nurses.
With many thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this book by one of my favourite authors.
